Navatar is an e107 plugin that automatically generates an avatar from a user's initials when they haven't uploaded one of their own. The original plugin by Arun S. Sekher was last released back in 2019 (v1.1.2) and had stopped working on modern setups — on PHP 8 it failed silently, producing no avatar and no error in the logs.

We've adopted and updated it. Navatar 2.0 runs on PHP 7.4–8.4 and current e107 v2, with all dependencies bundled — no composer needed on the server. Just upload the plugin directory and install it from the admin plugin manager.

Highlights of this release

• Fixed the silent PHP 8 failure — generation errors are now caught and written to the e107 system log (NAVATAR_01)
• Bundled libraries updated (php-initial-avatar-generator 4.5, intervention/image 2.7.2, guzzlehttp/psr7 2.x); patched for clean output up to PHP 8.4
• New one-click bulk generation: Admin → Navatar → Generate Navatars
• A working cron job for scheduled batch generation (previously an empty stub)
• Sane defaults for missing preferences, NULL/empty user images handled, and integer casting across all DB queries

Tested on e107 Lite 2.4.0.
